Selfie is a short film based on daily incidents faced by every 'common man'. It interpretes whatever people have perception about us, may be by our clothes, our appearance, etc. We know who and what we are in every respect.
After Frontfoot and Rubber winning awards and appreciation along with being viral sensations on Youtube, there was an added pressure as to what would the next project of Aghaaz be. This was the time when the submissions for Dimensions Mumbai of Mumbai Film Festival were opened.
Deciding to participate in this competition was in itself a huge matter for Aghaaz. We immediately started with the pre-production and wrote the script according to the theme. A major part of the film was to be shot in the local trains pf Mumbai. Due to previous experience from Frontfoot, we knew how to tackle this location. But then the rainy season was an added fight. The team bucked up. And with a few initial problems, the shoot was eventually a success. The whole team was extremely happy to find out that the film was officially selected at the MAMI Festival. A beautiful big screening, press conference, all this was complete novelty and Aghaaz team was absolutely thrilled to be a part of it. Finally, the day of award function arrived. The whole of Bollywood was present for the event. During the event, a man came to us and asked our Director to have a seat in the front saying, “Congratulations, you are the winner!” Hearing these words, the happiness of each and every person from the team can only be imagined. This is how Selfie won the Special Jury mention award at the MAMI festival and further went on to win at many national and international festivals. Today, Selfie has crossed 2m views and still remains to be viral on the internet. We witnessed how Selfie changed hundreds of minds. People found answers to their questions through Selfie. What more does a filmmaker want, than to affect lives of the viewers in our own little ways? The comments section on our YouTube channel give a great insight as to what people think. The film also got telecast on Zee talkies. Selfie has given a recognition in a way which even we could not have imagined.
